What have the angels been watching all along? Timothy Holt’s sweeping novel follows the angelic witnesses Gabriel, Chrioni, Ralph, and Michael from the call of Abraham through the plagues of Egypt, the ministry of Christ, the fires of revival, and into the twentieth century — ending with the author’s own great-uncle, Roland H. Buck, in 1979. A novel built on 1 Peter 1:12: “Angels desire to look into these things.”
Description
Angels desire to look into these things. Things Into Which Angels Long to Look imagines what that looking has actually seen — from Hagar in the wilderness and the binding of Isaac on Moriah, through the plagues, the wilderness years, the kingdom of David and Solomon, the long silence before Bethlehem, the ministry and crucifixion of Christ, Pentecost, and the scattering of the church across Rome, the desert fathers, Joan of Arc, Valley Forge, and two centuries of revival fire — Wesley, Cane Ridge, Azusa Street, and beyond.
Every biblical scene is built on the plain text of Scripture without contradicting it; every historical scene since keeps faith with the documented record — names, dates, places. The interior thoughts and unrecorded conversations of the angelic characters, and of the many humans they minister to, are the author’s own imaginative reconstruction, not an addition to Scripture. The final chapters follow Roland H. Buck (1918–1979), a real minister and the author’s own great-uncle, drawing on his published testimony and treated with that same documentary care.
