New Book: Things Into Which Angels Long to Look — From Genesis to 1979

Angels desire to look into these things.

I’m glad to share my newest book, Things Into Which Angels Long to Look: From Genesis to 1979, a novel of angelic witness. 1 Peter 1:12 says angels long to look into the things of the gospel — and this novel imagines what that looking has actually seen. It follows invented angelic characters, Gabriel, Chrioni, Ralph, and Michael, across the sweep of biblical and church history: Hagar in the wilderness, the binding of Isaac on Moriah, the plagues of Egypt, the kingdom of David, the long silence before Bethlehem, the ministry and crucifixion of Christ, Pentecost, and the centuries of scattering and revival that followed.

Faithful to the record, honest about the imagination

Every biblical scene is built on the plain text of Scripture without contradicting it. Every historical scene since — Joan of Arc, Valley Forge, Wesley and Whitefield, Cane Ridge, Azusa Street — keeps faith with the documented record: names, dates, places. The interior thoughts and unrecorded conversations belong to the author’s imagination, not to Scripture or to history itself. The final chapters follow Roland H. Buck, a real minister who lived from 1918 to 1979 — and my own great-uncle — drawing on his published testimony and treated with that same care.

For those who first taught me to wonder what the angels see.
