Kingdom Come: A Hiphop and Gospel Musical
Act I: The Arrival of the Kingdom
Scene 1 – “In the Beginning Was the Word”

Narrator (John)
Through Him all things were made, every star in the skies,
Every heartbeat that pulses, every tear in the eyes.
The darkness tried to drown Him, but it couldn’t prevail,
Light stands undefeated—mercy tips the scale.

Ensemble (Layered whispers, then unison chant)
🔥 Word became flesh!
🔥 Word became flesh!
Heaven touched earth, now nothing’s the same—
The kingdom has come in Jesus’ name.

John
He’s grace upon grace, truth wrapped in skin,
Eternal I AM, yet dwelling within.
Not a throne of gold, not a crown of pride,
But a manger low—that’s where He’ll reside.

Mary (soft, almost sung as a lullaby, then building)
He chose me, lowly, humble and small,
The Mighty One remembered, He’s Lord of all.
Magnify the Lord, let my spirit rejoice,
He’s bringing down the proud—He’s lifting up the voiceless!

Ensemble (call and response)
Light of the world—(We see!)
Hope for the nations—(Set free!)
He’s turning the tables, He’s breaking the chains,
The Kingdom is coming in Jesus’ name!

John (climactic, spoken with rhythm)
We’ve been waiting on power,
A lion to roar—
But the Lamb has arrived,
Knocking gently at the door.
The Word took on flesh,
God’s love became frame,
The King of all glory—
Remember His name!

All (Final Chorus – layered harmonies, building like a Hamilton finale)
🔥 Jesus! Name above every name!
🔥 Jesus! Kingdom come, never the same!
From beginning to end, He was, He is, He’ll be,
The Word made flesh brings eternity!

Scene 2 – “A Voice in the Wilderness”
(Sparse drums, handclaps, desert-wind effects. The beat feels gritty but leaves space for intensity.)

John the Baptist (spoken-rap, sharp cadence)
I’m the echo in the canyon, the cry before the flame,
The voice in the wilderness — remember my name?
Locusts for dinner, wild honey for dessert,
But the word I spit cuts deeper than dirt.

Repent! Repent! Let the hardness break,
The axe is at the root — every tree will shake.
Religion in your pockets, but your hearts are stone,
The Kingdom’s at the doorstep, don’t face it alone.

Crowd (overlapping whispers unified chant)
Who’s this preacher? Prophet or fraud?
Wild eyes blazing, a messenger of God.
Some say Elijah come back again,
Others say a madman, washed by the wind.

John the Baptist (more intensity)
Don’t crown me king, don’t raise me high,
I’m the warning shot — just passing by.
One’s on His way with a fire untamed,
I drown you in water — but He’ll rename!

🔥 “Spirit and fire, He’ll brand your soul,
The Holy One’s coming to make you whole.
I’m not fit to touch the straps on His shoes,
But He’s bringing the Good News you can’t refuse!”

Ensemble (gospel choir riff, call-and-response)
Prepare the way! (Prepare the way!)
Clear the stones! (Clear the stones!)
Every valley lifted high,
Every proud one overthrown!

John the Baptist (final percussive drive, voice raised like a prophet)
The kingdom don’t wait — it’s breaking through the door,
The King is on the move — get ready for more!

Scene 3 – “Behold the Lamb”

(Beat: Heavy drum with a pulsing bassline, stripped back — almost ceremonial. Gospel choir humming low, building suspense. Spotlight on John the Baptist.)

John the Baptist (prophetic rap, sharp cadence)
Next day I saw Him walking by,
Glory in His stride, fire in His eye.
Crowds pressed around, but I had to shout,
“Behold the Lamb! That’s what it’s about!”

Not a lamb for the altar, slain once a year,
But the Lamb of God — salvation’s here.
He takes away the sin, He breaks the chain,
Pure blood flowing, mercy remains.

Crowd (hushed chant, layering in)
Behold… the Lamb.
Behold… the Lamb.

John (passionate, building intensity)
I didn’t know Him ‘til the sign was clear,
Spirit like a dove descended near.
He’s the One, God’s chosen Son,
Baptizer with fire — the Holy One!

I’m the voice, but He’s the Word,
I’m the echo, He’s the unheard.
I decrease, so He can rise,
The Kingdom’s revealed before your eyes!

Choir (gospel swell)
🎶 Behold the Lamb — slain before the world began!
Behold the Lamb — mercy in the Son of Man!
He takes away the sin, He breaks the shame,
Forever and ever, praise His name! 🎶

Narrator (spoken, with gravitas)
And from that day, disciples turned their gaze,
Followed the Lamb, consumed by His ways.
The Word made flesh, the promise come true,
The Kingdom arrived — creation made new.

(Music swells to a triumphant chord — lights shift to Jesus stepping forward, crowd splitting around Him. Transition into Scene 3: “Follow Me.”)

Scene 4 – “Follow Me”

(Beat begins with steady boom-bap, layered with soft gospel organ. When the Chorus hits, choir harmonies swell.)

Jesus
You mend broken nets, but I mend broken lives,
Trade your catch of the day for a mission that thrives.
I’m building a kingdom that Rome can’t control—
A movement of mercy, redemption for souls.

Peter (hesitant, raw)
I’ve seen taxes crush, soldiers swing the blade,
Religion tied in knots, poor folks betrayed.
But Your words hit different—like thunder, like peace…
If You’re the way forward, I’m dropping my lease.

Andrew (quick rhythm)
Left the grind, dropped the weight of the day,
He called my name—what else can I say?
Not a scheme, not a trick, not a dream to forget,
It’s a fire in my chest that I’ll never regret.

James (strong cadence)
Father said, “Stay!”—but the pull was too real,
Something ‘bout this rabbi makes the darkness kneel.
It’s risk, it’s wild, but my heart says yes,
Better faith on the line than a life second best.

John (gentler, poetic)
I leaned on His words, felt the kingdom draw near,
Love in His tone burned away my fear.
No turning back, I’ve seen the sign—
Heaven’s voice calling, and the call is mine.

Chorus (Ensemble – soaring gospel hook)
🎶 Follow, follow, leave it all behind,
Kingdom come is now, not just in your mind.
We’re walking on the water of a brand-new rhyme,
Grace is our compass through space and time. 🎶

Jesus (spoken-rap, over the chorus)
No riches, no roof, no worldly fame—
But you’ll carry the power of My Father’s name.
Take nothing with you, just trust and go,
The nets you drop will overflow.

Chorus (bigger, full choir sound)
🎶 Follow, follow, hear the Spirit call,
The last made first, and the weak made tall.
Step into the fire, watch the nightfall flee,
The kingdom has come—come follow Me! 🎶

Scene 5 – “The Kingdom is at Hand”

(Beat starts sparse: handclaps, low bass. Builds as Jesus lists each “Blessed,” choir layering in harmonies. Think Hamilton’s My Shot meets a gospel revival service.)

Jesus (sermon-rap, steady cadence)
Blessed are the poor in spirit, the kingdom is yours,
Not the rich, not the violent with imperial swords.
Blessed are the mourners, tears turned to song,
My Father’s arms heal what’s been wrong.

Blessed are the meek, they’ll inherit the land,
Not the empire’s fists, but the open hand.
Blessed are the hungry for justice that’s true,
The table is set—there’s a feast for you.

Disciples (ad-libs, underscoring)
(Yeah!) Speak that truth!
(Amen!) Break the roof!
(C’mon!) Justice roll!
(Mercy overflow!)

Jesus (more fire)
Blessed are the merciful, mercy rebounds,
The more you give, the more it surrounds.
Pure in heart? You’ll see God’s face,
Glory revealed in the secret place.

Blessed are the peacemakers, bridge in the fight,
Children of Heaven, torches of light.
And when they hate you for My Name’s sake—
Stand tall, shine brighter, the world will awake!

Chorus (Ensemble – call & response, gospel style)
🎶 The kingdom is at hand—right here, right now! (Right here, right now!)
Heaven hits the street—no throne, no crown. (No throne, no crown!)
Lift the broken high, let the proud fall down! (Let the proud fall down!)
The kingdom is at hand—right here, right now! (Right here, right now!) 🎶

Bridge (Disciples layering lines, overlapping Hamilton-style)
Peter: Salt of the earth—don’t lose your taste!
John: Light on a hill—shine bright with grace!
Andrew: A city can’t hide when the night is long—
James: We’re the chorus of mercy, the justice song!

Ensemble (full choir swell, clapping and stomping)
🎶 The upside-down kingdom, the last made first,
The thirsty will drink, no more curse!
The kingdom is at hand, stretch out your hand,
Heaven’s breaking in across the land! 🎶

(Music rises to a triumphant shout, then cuts to silence—Jesus stands center stage, crowd buzzing, setting up the next scene: “Signs and Wonders” — miracles breaking out to prove the Kingdom’s here.)

Scene 6 – “Who Is This Man?”

(Dark boom-bap drums kick in, Wu-Tang grit. Narrator and Pharisees spit tight bars. As miracles are told, the music shifts brighter with gospel chords and voices, then crashes back into tension.)

Narrator / Pharisees (spoken-rap, steady cadence)
He’s healing lepers, blind men see,
He speaks to demons — they flee in defeat.
On Sabbath days He breaks our laws,
Eats with the outcasts, no fear of the cause.

Pharisees (angry whisper-raps, layered voices)
We guard the scrolls, we keep the way,
Who gives this man the right to say—
“Your sins forgiven”? Blasphemy’s claim!
A carpenter’s son with Galilee slang.

Crowds press closer, they shout His fame,
But if He’s the Messiah—why’s He so plain?

Miracle Recipients (solo spotlights, music shifts hopeful)
Former leper
I was cast out, scarred head to toe,
One touch from Him — and healing flowed.

Blind man
Born in the dark, never saw the dawn,
He spit in the clay, now my sight is strong.

Paralyzed man
They lowered me down, broken and still,
He said, “Rise, take your bed”—I walk by His will!

Chorus (Ensemble — full gospel call & response)
🎶 Who is this man that the wind obeys?
Who is this voice cutting through our days?
Some call Him prophet, some call Him fraud,
But when He speaks, we hear the voice of God! 🎶

Pharisees (cutting back in, sharp rhythm)
Dangerous crowds, His fame’s too loud,
We’ll shut Him down before Rome’s aroused.
If He keeps this up, we’ll lose control—
Better one man die than a nation fold.

Chorus (Ensemble, louder, defiant gospel energy)
🎶 Who is this man that the seas can hear?
Who is this word every demon fears?
Some call Him teacher, some call Him odd,
But when He speaks — we feel the breath of God! 🎶

(Beat cuts to silence, spotlight on Jesus in the distance — setting up the growing storm in Scene 6: “Storm on the Sea.”)

Scene 7 – “Storms & Seeds”

(Rolling drums, urgent strings, storm sound FX. Disciples rap in rapid-fire panic. Then music drops into stillness when Jesus speaks. Transition into a steady groove for the parable.)

Disciples (frantic, overlapping fast-raps)
Waves crashin’ down like the wrath of night,
Boat tossin’ heavy—man, this ain’t right!
We row, we pull, but the sea won’t obey,
Is the Teacher asleep while we fade away?!

Jesus (calm, firm voice — beat drops out)
Peace… be still.
Storm, know My name,
Wind, take your seat,
Sea, stop your game.

Narrator (over soft strings, steady rhyme)
The wind sat down like a hound at command,
The waves bowed low to the Lord of the land.
Silence wrapped the night so sweet,
Even the tempest kissed His feet.

Disciples (in awe, hushed rap)
Who is this man with the power to speak?
Storms retreat, oceans turn meek.
If winds and waves fall under His reign,
Then hearts must too—our fear, our shame.

(Music shifts to a mid-tempo groove, steady beat for parable rhythm.)

Jesus (parable-rap, clear cadence)
A farmer went out, seed in his hand,
Some fell on the path, some hit good sand.
Birds came quickly, stole seed away,
Thorns rose up and choked the day.
But seed in the soil—rich and deep,
That’s the word in a heart that keeps.

Disciples (layered, thoughtful rap)
We’re the ground, and He’s the seed,
The kingdom is sown in every deed.
Tend the soil, let faith take root,
Watch love spring up and bear its fruit.

Chorus (Ensemble – hopeful, gospel hook)
🎶 Storms will rise, but His word holds fast,
Seeds will grow, His truth will last.
Peace in the chaos, life in the land,
The kingdom is planted by His hand. 🎶

(Scene ends with the sound of a single seed hitting soil — soft percussion — lights dim to Jesus walking off, disciples pondering.)

Scene 8 – “The Raising of Lazarus”

(Stage: dim, mourners gathered, slow gospel organ underscoring. A heartbeat-like kick drum begins. Mary and Martha step forward with soulful lament lines. Pharisees and crowd observe in the background.)

Martha (sung, aching gospel tone)
Lord, if You had been here, my brother wouldn’t die…
Four days in the grave, now we’re asking why.

Mary (spoken-rap, broken but fierce)
We wept, we prayed, but the silence stayed,
Hope felt delayed in the stone-cold shade.
But even now, I know You can raise,
One word from You shatters death’s cage.

Jesus (calm, steady rap)
Your brother will rise — don’t fear the night,
I AM the Resurrection, I AM the Life.
If you believe, though your body falls,
Eternal breath answers death’s call.

Narrator (sharp cadence)
He wept with the mourners, He felt their pain,
Tears of the Savior in the falling rain.
But grief turned to fire when He faced the tomb,
He shouted a word that shattered the gloom—

Jesus (commanding, beat drops out)
Lazarus! … Come out!

(Silence for a beat. Then drums explode, choir erupts. Lights flash as Lazarus steps out bound in grave clothes.)

Choir (exploding into full gospel-hiphop)
🎶 Loose him, let him go, death lost its claim!
Grave clothes fall in Jesus’ name!
Stone rolled away, the Kingdom stands,
Resurrection power in His hands! 🎶

Crowd / Disciples (rap responses, layered)
Peter: I saw the dead walk — what else can compare?
John: Glory unveiled, God’s breath in the air!
Mary: Tears turned to dancing, sorrow undone,
Martha: Resurrection rising in the face of the Son!

Pharisees (dark undertone, whisper-raps)
This man’s too dangerous, He’s stealing the crowd,
If Rome hears this, our end is loud.
Better one should fall than the whole nation break,
His death for their life — that’s the trade we’ll make.

Choir (triumphant final hook, overpowering the Pharisees’ whispers)
🎶 Lazarus lives, chains are torn apart!
The grave can’t hold what burns in His heart!
Forever He reigns, the First and the Last,
Resurrection future breaking in the past! 🎶

(Music swells into a powerful finale chord, spotlight on Lazarus freed, disciples rejoicing — while Pharisees huddle in the shadows plotting. Lights fade transition into Judas’ intro scene.)

Scene 9 – “Twelve and Betrayal”

(Stage: dim lantern lighting, beat heavy with low bass + sharp snares, almost secretive. Judas alone at first, spotlight. The other disciples sit in shadow. Ensemble murmurs under his verse, like whispers.)

Judas (solo verse, gritty flow)
I joined the cause ‘cause I needed escape,
Saw Him heal the blind — no scam, no fake.
But Rome still stands, the streets still bleed,
And He talks forgiveness while we choke on need.

He says love your enemies, pray for their hate,
Turn the other cheek — is this power or fate?
I thought Messiah meant fire from the sky,
But He dines with the sinners while widows cry.

*(Ensemble whispers: “Shadow… doubt… betrayal…”)

Jesus (aside to Judas, calm but heavy)
I see the coins in your eyes, the fight in your chest,
The weight of your questions won’t let you rest.
A friend at my table already drifting away,
But My love won’t vanish — even when you betray.

I’ll still wash your feet, I’ll still call you friend,
Even knowing this road leads to my end.

Other Disciples (interjections, layering in)
Peter (snapping): We’re twelve strong, we’ll fight to the grave!
John (gentler): But He speaks of a kingdom no sword can save.
Thomas (skeptical): If one falls away, will the dream survive?
Andrew: Still the fire’s alive, still the hope will rise!

Ensemble (full chorus, dramatic harmonies)
🎶 Twelve around the table, stories interweave,
Faithful and frail, human webs we weave.
One will betray, another deny,
But the Kingdom will live, though its King will die. 🎶

(Beat cuts out suddenly, Judas slips back into the shadows. Jesus remains center stage, eyes lifted — foreshadowing the Passion to come. Transition Scene 10: “Shine Like the Sun (The Transfiguration)” as a dramatic Act I finale.)

Scene 10  – “Shine Like the Sun” (The Transfiguration)

(Stage: dim blue lighting. A slow hip-hop beat starts with airy pads and distant choir hums. As Jesus steps forward with Peter, James, and John, the beat builds. When His glory is revealed, the whole stage explodes with light, choir, and cinematic drums.)

Narrator (spoken rhythmically)
Jesus climbed the mountain high, three close at His side,
Peter, James, and John — no place to hide.
They thought it was prayer, a quiet retreat,
But Heaven had a secret they were about to meet.

(Music swells, shimmering synths + strings)

Ensemble (hushed chant)
Shine… shine… like the sun!
Shine… shine… Holy One!

Narrator
His face lit up like fire at dawn,
His clothes blazed white — every shadow gone.
Glory broke through, eternity near,
And suddenly Moses and Elijah appear!

Moses & Elijah (trading bars, prophetic rap)
Moses
The Law spoke of Him, the promise kept,
Every command, every tear wept.
Elijah
The prophets proclaimed, the fire, the rain,
All pointed to the Lamb who carries the pain.

Disciples (overlapping, frantic)
What do we say? Should we build Him a tent?
This glory’s too heavy, this moment’s heaven-sent!
Terrified faces, we fall to the ground,
This holy eruption shakes the mount!

(Beat drops suddenly — thunder sound FX. Voice from above, booming but clear.)

Voice of the Father (deep, layered choir + sub-bass)
This is My Son, My Beloved One!
Listen to Him — He and I are One!

(Music resumes — bright, triumphant, gospel choir swells.)

Ensemble (soaring chorus)
🎶 Shine, shine, radiant King!
Heaven and earth in Your glory sing!
The Law and the Prophets bow to Your name,
Jesus forever, forever the same! 🎶

Narrator (closing)
And when they looked up, the vision was gone,
Only Jesus remained, the kingdom moving on.
But the glory they saw on that mountain high
Would carry them on when the Son would die.

(Music resolves quietly — foreshadowing the cross.)

ACT II

Scene 1 – “Hosanna in the Streets”

(Upbeat percussion and brass fanfare, like a street parade. Children’s voices lead with chants. Crowd swells.)

Children (chant/rap):
Hosanna! Hosanna! Lift your hands,
Blessed is the One who fulfills God’s plans!
Hosanna! Hosanna! Wave your palm,
The King has come, bringing peace, not bombs!

Crowd (call-and-response):
👤 Leader: Who rides on a donkey?
👥 Crowd: The Son of Man!
👤 Leader: Who brings salvation?
👥 Crowd: The great “I AM!”
👤 Leader: Who shakes the nations?
👥 Crowd: The Kingdom’s near!
👤 Leader: Shout it loud, Jerusalem—
👥 Crowd: The King is here!

(Beat drops heavier. Pharisees step forward, rhythm darkens.)

Pharisees (low rap, muttering):
Tell them to stop, this uproar’s a crime,
Rome won’t be patient—we’re running out of time.
If Caesar hears this, our place is gone,
Their cheers are rebellion dressed up in a song.

Jesus (calm, authoritative rap):
If they keep silent, the stones will cry out,
Even rocks testify, even mountains shout.
Creation is groaning, heaven agrees—
The Kingdom of God rides in on peace.

(Music shifts brighter; Ensemble layers in a counter-melody.)

Ensemble (counterpoint over Jesus):
Hosanna in the highest—make way, make way!
Shadow of the cross looms over this day.
A King who brings mercy, not chariots of war,
But love that is stronger than empire’s roar.

(Children and crowd overlap in chants, making a wall of sound.)

Children:
Hosanna, Hosanna!
Crowd:
Blessed is He!
Ensemble (sustained gospel-style hook):
Hosanna in the highest—eternity!

(All voices swell together, then sudden drop—beat cuts out, only a hushed chant.)

All (whispered, building):
Hosanna… Hosanna… Hosanna in the streets…

(Final crash of instruments, lights freeze on Jesus as He rides slowly forward—music resolves but leaves a hint of tension, foreshadowing the cross.)

Scene 2 – “This Cup”

(Soft piano chords. Dim table lighting. Twelve men gathered. Beat is slow, heartbeat-like — foreshadow of sacrifice.)

Jesus (gentle rap, reflective):
This is my body—take it, eat,
Broken for you, a covenant seat.
This is my blood—take it, drink,
Forgiveness flows deeper than you think.

(He passes bread and cup. Disciples exchange glances.)

Disciples (call-and-response rap):
Where are You going? / Why this tone?
We left our nets, / We left our home.
You speak of betrayal, / of death to come—
Is this what it means / to follow the Son?

Jesus (firm, rhythmic):
The greatest among you must serve, not be served,
Bend low like water—let your pride be curved.
Wash one another’s feet, walk in love that’s true,
The world will know you’re mine by the love you do.

(Jesus kneels, mime of washing feet. Percussion taps quietly like water droplets.)

Peter (short solo, agitated):
You’ll never wash me—Lord, I’m too low!
Jesus:
If I don’t wash you, you’ve no share to know.
Peter (relenting):
Then not just my feet—my hands and head!
Jesus (calm):
The clean need little, just faith instead.

(A light female vocal hum enters — like Spirit’s presence.)

Jesus (rap with rising intensity):
Love one another as I have loved you,
That’s the commandment, the covenant new.
A servant is not greater than his Master above,
So follow my footsteps, walk in my love.

Ensemble (counterpoint, layered under Jesus):
Take, eat, remember—
Bread of life, forever.
Take, drink, forgiveness—
New covenant witness.

(Music softens again — tension builds.)

Jesus (somber):
One here will betray, lift heel against me,
The Scriptures fulfilled, the cup poured empty.
What you must do, friend—do it fast,
The shadow of the cross is coming at last.

(Judas slips out into the shadows. A beat drop of silence. Lights dim except on Jesus and the cup.)

Ensemble (hushed chant as scene closes):
This cup… this bread…
Body broken, blood shed.
This love… this night…
Darkness falls, but God ignites.

(Blackout. Seamless transition to Gethsemane.)

Scene 3 – “Gethsemane”

(Dim blue-green lighting. Minimal beat, almost heartbeat-like. Jesus steps forward, spotlight, while disciples slump in shadows.)

Jesus (solo rap, anguished):
My soul is overwhelmed, sorrow like a flood,
I fall on my face, sweat mixed with blood.
Father, if it’s possible, let this cup pass,
But not my will—let Yours outlast.

(Beat pauses, silence. He looks back at disciples asleep.)

Jesus (spoken, pained):
Could you not watch with me, just one hour?
My friends, stay awake—this is sin’s dark power.

Ensemble (whispered chant, offstage voices):
The spirit is willing, the flesh is weak…
Eyes grow heavy, shadows speak.

(Jesus kneels again, more intensity in beat, strings creep in.)

Jesus (rap, rising):
Abba, Father, all things in Your hand,
Take this cup from me if You can.
Yet if it must be drunk, I’ll drink it down,
The Lamb of God wears the thorny crown.

Disciples (sleepy overlapping ad-libs):
We’ll stay awake… we’ll pray… we’ll fight…
(voices fade into snores)

(Shift — angelic harmonies glide in like shimmering synths.)

Angelic Whisper (sung, ethereal):
Strength for the Son, light in the night,
The will of the Father, the Lamb in the fight.
Though darkness surrounds, love will remain,
Through agony, victory’s gained.

Jesus (final cry, intense rap):
The hour has come—betrayer’s near,
The mob approaches, the torches appear.
Rise, my brothers, the time is at hand,
The Son of Man is betrayed to man.

Ensemble (ominous chant as soldiers’ footsteps echo):
Torches flicker, shadows creep,
The Shepherd struck, the flock will weep.

(Stage fills with soldiers’ silhouettes. Scene cuts hard to Judas’ arrival in “Thirty Silver Coins.”)

Scene 4 – “Thirty Silver Coins”

(Dark beat, metallic percussion, faint sound of coins clinking. Judas enters in shadow.)

Judas (defensive rap, low):
You wanted a king, I wanted results,
But He moves too slow, just salt on salt.
I dreamed of revolt, of Rome overthrown,
But He talks of dying, of seeds being sown.

Thirty silver coins—my choice, my prize,
Trade love for metal, truth for lies.
If He won’t strike, then I’ll ignite,
I’ll force His hand in the dead of night.

(Priests emerge, cloaked. Whisper-rap back and forth.)

Priests (sinister):
Kiss Him tonight, point Him out to the guard,
We’ll take Him in silence, strike swift and hard.
No riots, no uproar, no crowd to defend,
This Rabbi’s uprising will meet its end.

Garden Ensemble (whisper chant, rhythmic):
Footsteps in the shadows, torchlight gleams,
Prophets foretold it, ancient dreams.
Silver falls heavy, the deal is sealed,
A friend turns foe—the plan revealed.

(Shift — the garden fills with soldiers, drums pounding like footsteps. Judas steps toward Jesus.)

Judas (forced cheer):
Rabbi! Hello…
(He kisses Jesus. Music halts, single bass note.)

Jesus (piercing rap, silence after each line):
Friend… do what you came to do.
Betrayal with a kiss—prophecy rings true.
I was with you daily, teaching God’s word,
Yet you hand me over with the crowd’s sword.

Ensemble (layered voices, half-whisper half-yell):
Torches blaze—chains are near,
The Lamb is taken, the end draws near.

(Chaos builds — soldiers seize Jesus, disciples scatter in panic. Stage goes red, beat cuts hard into the next scene: “Before the Rooster Crows.”)

Scene 5 – “Before the Rooster Crows”

Peter (rap, conflicted):
I swore by my life, I swore by my breath,
I’d stand with my Lord, even face death.
But here in the courtyard, cold fires burn,
Fear in my chest, my courage turns.

Servant Girl:
Wait—weren’t you with Him? I’ve seen your face,
You followed that Rabbi all over the place.

Peter (snapping, nervous):
No, girl, you’re wrong—I don’t know that man,
Just another stranger, no part of His plan.

Bystander 1 (chant):
Your accent betrays you, Galilean tone,
You walked in His footsteps—you’re not alone.

Peter (angry, breaking):
I swear I don’t know Him, don’t call me His friend!
(Cock crows… silence falls, spotlight freezes on Peter)

Peter (soft lament, almost sung):
Oh God… He said this night would descend.
Three denials, the rooster’s cry,
My soul is shattered—I betrayed, I lied.

Ensemble (whispered chant):
Before the rooster crows… before the dawn breaks…
Weakness revealed, but mercy awakes.

(Peter runs offstage weeping; foreshadow of his restoration in Act III.)

Scene 6 – “The Verdict”

(Stage lit stark white like a courtroom. Heavy snare and stomp. Pilate steps forward, authoritative rhythm.)

Pilate (cypher rap):
Rome says keep the peace, no uprisings allowed,
One spark of rebellion ignites the crowd.
They say You’re a king—are You claiming a throne?
Your people brought charges, won’t leave You alone.

Jesus (calm, steady):
My Kingdom’s not of this world, understand,
No armies march, no sword in my hand.
If it were, my servants would rise and fight,
But my reign is truth, my crown is light.

Pilate (conflicted, turning to priests):
I find no fault, His record is clean,
But your voices rage—what does this mean?

(Priests and Sanhedrin step forward, whisper-chant growing louder.)

Priests (chant, building):
He stirs the people, He claims to reign,
If you let Him live, Rome brings the pain.
One man must die for the nation’s sake,
Better His blood than the empire quake.

(The Crowd swells, pounding stomp rhythm.)

Crowd (chant/rap, aggressive):
Crucify! Crucify! Let Barabbas go free!
A rebel we’ll take, but not this seed.
Crucify! Crucify! Don’t delay,
We want the cross—take Him away!

Pilate (frantic, over the noise):
Why? What crime? This man’s not stained,
But the mob won’t rest till His blood is drained.
I wash my hands—His fate’s not mine,
Take Him, soldiers—nail Him in time.

(Water poured into basin — sound amplified like a beat drop. Jesus is led away in chains.)

Jesus (solemn rap, to Pilate and crowd):
You think you hold power, but heaven decrees,
No man takes my life—I lay it down, you see.
Authority you wield was given above,
This verdict of death will birth endless love.

(Beat slows, low strings rise. Soldiers drag Jesus offstage. Ensemble echoes a haunting refrain.)

Ensemble (somber chant):
The innocent condemned, the guilty go free,
Justice turned upside down on Calvary.

(Blackout. Transition into “The Thief’s Confession.”)

Scene 7 – “Man of Sorrows”

(Stage black. A single blood-red spotlight. Slow, heavy beat like a funeral drum. Strings in minor key. The cross looms center. Jesus raps in labored breaths, while ensemble weaves prophetic refrains.)

Jesus (rap, strained, prophetic):
I am poured out like water, bones out of joint,
My heart melts like wax at death’s anoint.
Dogs surround Me, they pierce hands and feet,
Cast lots for my garments beneath the heat.

They mock with their laughter, “Where’s your God?”
But Abba is silent, the silence is broad.
I cry, “My God, why have You forsaken?”
Hell’s gates open, foundations shaken.

Ensemble (chant, Isaiah 53):
Man of sorrows, griefs He bore,
Wounded, pierced, for us He wore.
By His stripes we are healed,
Through His blood, covenant sealed.

Jesus (low, almost spoken):
My soul — an offering for sin,
The weight of the world now pressing in.
The second death’s shadow, I taste its flame,
“Depart from Me” echoes — eternal shame.

But I stand in their place, I take the blow,
The crimson worm crushed, yet life will grow.
Like the worm on the tree, I give My flesh,
Cover My children, their souls refresh.

Female Vocal (haunting, sung hook):
Crimson worm, broken, torn,
Love endured the crown of thorn.
Laid His soul, the wrath He braved,
So the world through Him is saved.

Jesus (final desperate rap, rising):
You hide Your face, yet I still believe,
Though crushed and despised, Your plan I achieve.
I bear their judgment, the curse, the pain,
So mercy forever and life will reign.

Ensemble (layered chant, Psalm 22):
All the ends of the earth will remember, return,
Every nation will bow, every heart will learn.
He did not despise the afflicted One’s cries,
Through His suffering, the world will rise.

(Beat builds, dissonant strings, then silence — foreshadowing “It Is Finished.” Lights dim to black, leaving only the blood-red glow.)

Scene 8 – “It Is Finished”

(Stage dim. Cross silhouetted in stark light. Slow beat begins — low bass thump like a heartbeat. Narrator steps forward.)

Narrator (spoken word, minor chords):
A hill outside the city, the sky turned black,
The Lamb of God lifted, no turning back.
Nails through His wrists, thorn crown on His head,
Love hung suspended where the guilty bled.

(Beat picks up. Jesus, labored voice, raps between gasps.)

Jesus (strained rap):
Father, forgive them—they don’t understand,
They pierce with iron, still held in Your hand.
Darkness covers, creation moans,
Sin’s heavy weight breaks flesh and bones.

Thief 2 (from earlier, gasping):
Remember me, Lord, when You reign above—
Jesus (gentle, breaking):
Today you’ll be with Me in paradise, love.

(Thunderous sound cue. Veil tearing represented by a sharp sample crash. Jesus continues.)

Jesus (louder, final breaths):
I thirst… the cup is drained to the brim,
Forsaken I feel—yet I trust in Him.
It is finished! The debt has been paid!
Into Your hands, my spirit is laid.

(Music drops silent. A long pause. Then sudden rumble — earthquake sfx, choir enters softly.)

Mary (wailing rap, anguished):
My son, my Lord, my heart is torn,
The light of my life, on a cross forlorn.

John (sorrowful):
We followed the fire, we carried Your word,
Now silence remains, no voice is heard.

Centurion (strong, awed):
Surely this man was the Son of God,
The earth gives witness, the heavens nod.

(Ensemble joins, layered harmonies with hip-hop rhythm.)

Ensemble (somber chant):
Finished, yet beginning, death overthrown,
The cross now a throne, the blood atones.
Finished, yet forever, love sealed the fight,
The Lamb is the Lion, darkness meets light.

(Lights flicker, tombs open — dancers rise symbolically from the ground. Music fades to a low drone, holding tension for the resurrection scene.)

Narrator (quiet, over silence):
The curtain is torn, the grave is near,
But love won’t stay buried—the dawn draws clear.

(Blackout. Silence before “Early Sunday Morning.”)

Scene 9 – “Early Sunday Morning”

(Stage dark. Soft ambient strings. A single shaft of golden light hits center stage. Slow beat begins, like a heartbeat returning.)

Mary Magdalene (solo rap, tender, searching):
I came to the tomb in the dark of the night,
The stone rolled away—something’s not right.
Tears filled my eyes, confusion and dread,
“Why do you seek the living among the dead?”

(Two angels step forward in white, harmonized singing over a hip-hop beat drop.)

Angels (sung hook):
He is not here, He is risen indeed,
The grave couldn’t hold Him, death lost its seed.
Hope is alive, let the whole world sing,
Jesus the Victor, our risen King!

(Mary falls to her knees as Jesus steps into the light, resurrected, radiant.)

Jesus (gentle rap, intimate):
Mary… don’t cling, but go and tell,
My brothers must hear the story well.
Death is defeated, life overflows,
The seed that was buried forever grows.

Mary (overwhelmed, joyous rap):
Rabboni! My Teacher, my heart restored,
The grave is empty, You live, my Lord!

(Disciples rush in — beat picks up, celebration builds with claps and stomps.)

Disciples (cypher-style rap, trading lines):
👤 1: We doubted, we hid, we ran in fear,
👤 2: But He stands among us, His wounds are clear!
👤 3: The grave is empty, the stone rolled away,
👤 4: Our Savior lives—this is the day!

(Chorus swells — gospel choir sound layered with rap.)

Ensemble (anthemic chant):
He’s alive! He’s alive! Let the nations know,
From the tomb to the throne, resurrection flows.
He’s alive! He’s alive! Hope resurrected,
Every promise He made—fully perfected!

(Stage fills with dancing, palm branches return like in Hosanna, but now with resurrection joy. Music reaches full energy.)

All Voices (final shout):
The stone rolled away—
The Son rose today—
Forever He reigns—
The grave has no claim!

(Lights burst into full gold. Scene holds in triumphant praise before shifting into “Go Into All the World.”)

Act II Scene 10 – “Go Into All the World”

(Stage opens bright. The disciples stand together, hesitant but hopeful. Beat begins steady, triumphant, like marching drums. Jesus steps forward, radiating authority.)

Jesus (commissioning rap):
All authority in heaven, on earth is mine,
Go make disciples — cross every line.
Baptize in the Name, Father, Spirit, Son,
Teach them my words till the race is run.

I’ll be with you always — don’t be afraid,
From now till the end, my presence won’t fade.

(Beat swells. Jesus steps back. Disciples step forward, voices layering like a rap cypher.)

Disciples (trading lines, hip-hop flow):
👤 1: From Jerusalem’s walls to Samaria’s streets,
👤 2: We’ll carry His fire, the gospel beat.
👤 3: To the ends of the earth, His truth will resound,
👤 4: Chains will break and the lost be found.

(Choir voices layer in harmonies. Ensemble joins.)

Ensemble (anthem hook):
We will go into the world with love and with grace,
Every nation, every tribe, every tongue, every race.
Kingdom come, kingdom now, let the whole earth sing,
All glory forever to Jesus the King!

(Music shifts into a mega-reprise, bringing back motifs from earlier scenes in overlapping counterpoint.)

Callbacks (layered, overlapping):

  • Children’s voices (from Hosanna): Hosanna in the highest—make way, make way!
  • Jesus’ voice (from This Cup): Love one another as I have loved you.
  • Whisper (from Gethsemane): Not my will but Yours be done…
  • Ensemble (from It Is Finished): Finished, yet beginning, death overthrown…
  • Mary Magdalene (from Early Sunday Morning): He’s alive, He’s alive! Hope resurrected!

(All swirl together until the music cuts out, leaving only one unified chant.)

All Voices (in unison, crescendo):
Kingdom come, kingdom now, forever and ever—Amen!

(Lights burst white and gold. Curtain falls.)
